West Brom vs Southampton match preview

West Brom have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5 league games and Southampton have won 2 and lost 3 of their last 5. Southampton won 2-0 when the sides met earlier in the season and that game had 5 Southampton corners, 1 West Brom corner, 2 Southampton yellow cards and 1 West Brom yellow card.

West Brom are coming off an incredible 5-2 victory away at Chelsea but they still find themselves 11 points from safety. Southampton will be disappointed with their league campaign this season but find themselves in 14th spot, 10 points clear of the drop zone. With an FA Cup semi-final coming up against Leicester it will be interesting how the Saints treat this game. Southampton don’t have the easiest of league run ins this season and in their final 8 games they will play Spurs, Leicester, Liverpool, Leeds and West Ham. So whilst they are 10 points clear of the drop zone and it would be somewhat of a surprise if they were drawn into a heavy relegation battle, they would like to pick up 3 points today to give them some more breathing room and allow them to go into the FA Cup Semi Final on the back of a positive result.

A pretty crazy stat is that 20% of West Brom’s goals in the Premier league this season were scored away at Chelsea in their last game. West Brom have got better in terms of scoring goals recently though in truth it’s because they have to. Draws won’t be enough for Sam Allardyce to extend his record of never having been relegated from the Premier League so scoring goals is an absolute must. West Brom have scored in 7 of their last 13 league games and they scored an average of 1.07 goals per game in those last 13 games, and whilst these average are nothing to get excited about they do show a big improvement for West Brom and the fact that its simply do or die for them now means goals probably won’t be a bad bet in West Brom games for the remainder of this season.

Southampton have scored 8 goals in their last 4 league games and have conceded 9 goals in their last 3 league games. Southampton have a horrible defensive record in the back end of the season and they have conceded in 12 of their last 13 league games and they conceded an average of 2.61 goals per game in those last 12 league games. Admittedly those numbers are boosted by having 9 goals put past them by Man United but they still have clearly struggled defensively.

Goals look a good bet here as Southampton games have been seeing allot of goals lately and West Brom simply have to score and will likely play accordingly as they have conceded in 17 of their last 20 league games and conceded an average of 2.05 goals per game in those 20 games, so they can’t rely on defensive stability to get them results. In previous games West Brom have played for 1-0 wins but against Everton and Crystal Palace that back fired as they lost both games 1-0. Surely after coming off a result like they got against Chelsea last time they will feel confident in their attacking ability and we will see them be more aggressive than in previous games. Both teams have scored in 6 of the last 9 Southampton league games so hopefully we should see goals here with over 1.5 goals and both teams to score being the obvious betting angles.

West Brom’s corner stats have to be taken with a pinch of salt as they find their attacking opportunities limited for most of the season due to them playing large periods of the game without possession or territory. If we look at the last 4 West Brom home games they had 9 corners against Newcastle, 3 corners against Everton, 7 corners against Brighton and 4 corners against Man United. We feel those stats are a better representation of what to expect from West Brom in terms of Corners tonight. Southampton have taken 3 or more corners in 86.66% of their league games this season. The Saints have taken 3 or more corners in all of their last 13 league games and they average 5 corners per game in those 3 games. We feel there is a very high chance both teams take at least 3 corners tonight as Southampton do on a consistent basis and West Brom have been in recent games, especially at home.

West Brom have been given at least 1 card in 86.66% of their league games this season though they have seen a slight drop in recent games as they have been given no cards in 2 of their last 5 league games. Southampton have been given no cards in any of their last 3 league games and the last 2 Southampton league games finished with no cards for them or their opponents. It’s a game with 1 team scrapping for their lives and another team trying to avoid having to scrap for their lives down the line, it’s impossible to say their won’t be cards but it is worth remembering that with no crowds these games are not what they used to be and the current stats suggest cards are an extremely risky bet.

The best bets in this game are over 1.5 goals, both teams to score and 3 or 4+ corners each team.

Brighton vs Everton match preview

Brighton have Won 2 and lost 3 of their last 5 league games and Everton have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5. The reverse fixture ended in a 4-2 Everton win with 3 Everton corners, 10 Brighton corners and 1 Brighton yellow card.

Brighton have scored in 73.33% of their league games this season and conceded in 70%. Everton have scored in 79.31% of their league games and conceded in 75.86% of their league games. Goals look a good bet here with both teams consistent with scoring and conceding pretty much all season. Everton have scored in 8 of their last 10 league games, scoring an average of 1.20 goals per game in those 1p games. Everton have conceded in 11 of their last 14 league games and they conceded an average of 1.35 goals per game in those last 14 league games. Brighton have also scored in 8 of their last 10 league games and have scored in all of their last 4 league games, scoring 7 goals in those last 4 games. Brighton have conceded in 5 of their last 6 league games and they conceded an average of 1.33 goals per game in those games. So the solid season stats are backed up by good recent scoring form and with both teams struggling to keep clean sheets, it looks likely there will be goals in this game. Over 1.5 goals, both teams to score and over 2.5 goals look good bets though at bigger odds some bets like both teams to score in both halves or both teams to score 2+ goals could be good bets. Especially as there were 6 goals when these sides met earlier in the season.

Brighton have taken 3 or more corners in 93.33% of their league games this season and Everton have taken 3 or more corners in 82.75% of their league games. Brighton average 6.81 corners per game in their last 11 league games and whilst Everton have been less impressive on the corners they have been quite consistent against sides lower down the league like Brighton and the games where Everton have failed to take at least 3 corners recently have been against Liverpool, Man City and Man United, where they would have found themselves on the back foot for large parts of the game. So 3+ corners each team looks a good bet but with Brighton being high in the corner averages right now and Everton having the occasional low corner game, it may be smart to look at total match corners being 8/9+ as should Everton have a low game there is still a good chance Brighton could do most the work on their own.

Brighton have been given no cards in 6 of their last 9 Premier League games and 7 of those last 9 games finished with under 30 match booking points. Everton have been more consistent with cards but unlike corners it’s not an angle where we are confident they would do the majority of the work should Brighton not contribute and so for that reason we won’t be backing cards in this game.

The best bets in this game are over 1.5 goals, over 2.5 goals, both teams to score and then 3+ corners each team or 8/9+ match corners which looks the safer option with doubts about Everton on the corners.

At bigger odds bets like both teams to score in both halves and both teams to score 2+ goals could give you a good run for your money.
