Oxford vs Lincoln match preview

Oxford have lost 3 and won 2 of their last 5 league games and Lincoln have drawn 2, lost 2 and won 1 of their last 5 league games. The reverse fixture took place on the opening day of this season and Lincoln won 2-0 in a game with 3 Lincoln corners, 2 Oxford corners, 2 Oxford yellow cards and 1 Oxford red card.

Lincoln have scored in 9 of their last 10 league games and they scored an average of 1.60 goals per game in those last 10 games. Lincoln have also conceded in 9 of their last 10 league games and they conceded an average of 1.80 goals per game in those games. Oxford have failed to score in 7 of their last 10 league games and have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 7 league games.

8 of the last 10 Oxford league games have finished under 2.5 goals so even with Lincoln games usually seeing goals, we don’t feel like goals are an angle to take in this game.

Oxford have taken 3 or more corners in 33 of their 36 league games played this season (91.66% of their games) and Lincoln have taken 3 or more corners in 32 of their 36 league games played this season (88.88% of their games).

Oxford have taken 3 or more corners in all of their last 24 league games, and they took 5 corners or more in 17 of those 24 games. Lincoln have taken 5 or more corners in 8 of their last 9 league games. So, it looks extremely likely that both teams will take 3 or more corners and the stats suggest that there is a good chance it could be 4 or 5 corners each in this one with a game that pushes into a double-digit corner count.

Oxford have been given at least 1 card in 27 of their 36 league games this season (75% of their games) and Lincoln have been given at least 1 card in 31 of their 36 league games played this season (86.11% of their games).

Lincoln have been given at least 1 card in 4 of their last 5 league games and they were given 2 cards in 3 of those games. Oxford have been given no cards in 5 of their last 11 league games. Bookings don’t look a bad bet though Oxford’s stats especially in recent games are slightly off putting.

One important thing to remember about this game is that its live on Sky Sports. That may sound silly, but these are league 1 players who rarely get the chance to play in a prime-time slot on Sky sports. The players are going to be desperate to make an impression and put on a show and we feel this could lead to both teams easily picking up a card as their extra adrenaline and drive is bound to boil over into a reckless challenge or something that will see them pick up a cheap card. For that reason, we are happy to take both teams to get a player carded as part of our bet.

The angle here is corners and cards, as the stats suggest a very high chance that both teams have at least 3 corners and we feel both teams are very likely to pick up a card each. The stats don’t say that the bookings part of this bet is a risky bet, but it is usually one where we would be on the fence. Oxford will be desperate to get back into the play-off picture and Lincoln still have hopes of automatic promotion, so there is lots to play for and with the game being live on TV we are sure this will add an extra little bit of spice to the fixture and help bring the bookings leg of our bet home.
