Forest Green vs Bolton match preview

Bolton have won 4 and drawn 1 of their last 5 games and Forest Green have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 5 games. These two sides met on the opening day of the season when Forest Green won 1-0 in a game with 1 Forest Green corner, 5 Bolton corners, 1 Forest Green yellow card and 3 Bolton yellow cards.

Bolton are unbeaten in 12 league games, winning 10 and drawing 2 of those games. Bolton have scored at least 1 goal in all their last 15 league games, and they scored an average of 1.46 goals per game in those 15 games. In this 12-game unbeaten stretch, Bolton have kept 7 clean sheets and have only conceded an average of 0.50 goals per game in those 15 games. Forest Green have been very inconsistent lately and in their last 8 league games they have not had back-to-back wins, draws or losses in any of them, which highlights just how inconsistent they have been in recent league games. In front of goal, they have been no better and in their last 7 league games they have failed to score 3 times, and they scored 2 goals or more in the other 4 games.

Forest Green have scored in 30 of their 36 league games played this season (83.33% of their games) and Bolton have scored in 29 of their 36 league games this season (80.55% of their games). Even with those stats we don’t think both teams to score is a bet to take in this game. Bolton have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 8 league games and Forest Green have failed to score in their last 2 games. Against most other teams we would be confident that Forest Green would score a goal, but this is a Bolton defence that have been extremely solid in recent games. If playing goals, we would recommend staying to over 1.5 goals. As there is a good chance that both teams could score, we have 2 teams who have both scored in over 80% of their games this season, just on current form we feel this risk reward doesn’t add up on both teams to score. Forest Green have scored 2 or more goals in 7 of their last 11 league games and Bolton have scored 2 or more goals in 5 of their last 8 league games, so should 1 of these teams keep a clean sheet there is a good chance that the other team could score 2 goals to cover the over 1.5 goals bet on their own.

Both sides have taken 3 or more corners in 30 of their 36 league games this season (83.33% of their games). In their last 7 league games Bolton average 6.85 corners per game, nearly 2 corners more than their season average of 4.88 corners per game, so you can see they have stepped up their corner count in recent games. Forest Green have been less impressive and only average 3.40 corners per game in their last 5 league games, below their season average of 4.88 corners per game. In the second half of the season Bolton average 5.52 corners per game and they have seen that number keep rising as continue in good form. If playing corners, we recommend sticking to Bolton total match corners or Bolton to have the most corners. As we expect Bolton to have at least 4 corners and there is a good chance that on current form they will take more corners than Forest Green.

Forest Green have been given at least 1 card in 32 of their 36 league games played this season (88.88% of their games) and Bolton have been given at least 1 card in 27 of their 36 league games played this season (75% of their games). Forest Green have been given 2 cards or more in 8 of their last 11 league games and Forest Green’s opponents have been given at least 1 card in all their last 14 league games and their opponents were given 2 or more cards in 10 of those 14 games. Bolton have been given exactly 1 yellow card in all their last 5 league games. Bolton’s opponents have been given at least 1 card in all their last 9 league games and their opponents were given 2 cards or more in 6 of those 9 games. Another interesting angle on cards is that Forest Green have been given 3 red cards in their last 12 league games and Bolton have been given 5 red cards in their last 17 league games, also in the last 5 Bolton league games their opponents have been given a red card in 2 of those 5 games.

So, if playing goals, we recommend sticking to over 1.5 goals as the safest option. With corners all bets should revolve around Bolton as we think it’s highly likely they will have at least 4 or 5 corners and are also likely to take more corners than Forest Green on current form. There looks to be a good chance that Forest Green will pick up at least a couple of yellow cards and the game will likely have at least 3 cards. Another interesting angle for bookings is to look at a red card in the match as the stats suggest that may be an outside bet with a chance.

Exeter vs Salford match preview

Exeter have won 2 and lost 3 of their last 5 games and Salford have won 1, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their last 5 games. On the opening day of the season, they played out a 2-2 draw with 4 Salford corners, 10 Exeter corners and 1 Salford yellow card.

Salford have only won 1 of their last 8 league games and Exeter have lost their last 3 in a row, so neither team is in good form right now. Both sides have been inconsistent with goals at both ends of the field in recent games. Exeter have failed to score in 3 of their last 7 league games and they have only scored 2 goals in their last 3 league games. Exeter have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 6 league games, though they have now conceded at least 1 goal in all their last 3 league games. Salford have failed to score in their last 3 league games and they only score an average of 0.55 goals per game in their last 9 league games. Salford have also kept 3 clean sheets in their last 6 league games.

So, goals are a risky bet. Both sides are on the outside of the play offs looking in right now and neither can really afford for their bad run of form to continue much longer if they want to have a shot at promotion to league 1 this season. With 2 out of form teams playing in a high-pressure match like this I think it’s wise to leave goals and the result.

Exeter have taken 3 or more corners in 30 of their 35 league games played this season (85.71% of their games) and Salford have taken 3 or more corners in 28 of their 35 league games this season (80% of their games). Exeter have taken 5 corners or more in 7 of their last 8 league games and Salford have taken 5 or more corners in 12 of their last 18 league games. So, it would be no surprise to see both teams have 4 or 5 corners and the game to push into double figures.

Salford have been given at least 1 card in 28 of their 35 league games played this season (80% of their games) and Exeter have been given at least 1 card in 22 of their 35 league games played this season (62.85% of their games). Truth is any game with Exeter is a game where you want to be careful backing cards as their games have been low on cards all season with just 15 of their 35 league games seeing 30 or more booking points (42.85% of their games). Despite being given no cards in their last league game Salford still average 2.11 yellow cards per game in their last 9 league games and they were given at least 2 cards in 7 of those games. So, if playing bookings, you should stick to Salford total booking points or Salford to be given the most booking points.

So, goals and the result are worth avoiding. Corners look a good bet with it highly likely both teams will have at least 3 corners and there is good reason to look to take the line a little higher there, as the stats suggest a good chance both teams could take 4 or 5 corners and the game has a double-digit corner count. Cards also look a possible angle, though any bet on cards should revolve around Salford.

Carlisle vs Cambridge match preview

Cambridge have won 3 and lost 2 of their last 5 games and Carlisle have lost 2, drawn 2 and won 1 if their last 5 games. When the sides met on the opening day of this season Cambridge won 3-0 with 8 Carlisle corners, 3 Cambridge corners, 4 Carlisle yellow cards and 1 Cambridge yellow card.

Carlisle have scored in 27 of their 34 league games this season (79.41% of their games) and Cambridge have scored in 27 of their 37 league games played this season (72.97% of their games). Carlisle failed to score in their last game but that is the first time in their last 10 league games that they have failed to score, Carlisle have conceded in all their last 12 league games. Cambridge have scored in all their last 4 league games and Cambridge have kept 7 clean sheets in their 13 league games.

Goals is a difficult one here, as both teams have scored in 9 of the last 10 Carlisle league games, but Carlisle only scored 1 goal in 7 of those 9 games and they face a Cambridge side who are no mugs defensively but have also proved they will concede goals as they had 4 put past them by Salford, then Bolton and Oldham both scored 2 goals against them, and all 3 of those games came in their last 10 league games. In the end we have decided that goals are a market that we are going to leave for this game. Normally when we have this much doubt about both teams scoring, we would look at over 1.5 goals as the play but 6 of the last 9 Cambridge league games have finished under 1.5 goals, so for that reason goals are not a market we are going to play.

Carlisle have taken 3 or more corners in 32 of their 34 league games played this season (94.11% if their games) and they have also given away 3 or more corners in 32 of their 34 league games this season (94.11% of their games). Cambridge have taken 3 or more corners in 26 of their 37 league games played this season (70.27% of their games). Whilst the season stats for Cambridge are not that impressive, when we look at their recent form on corners it does leave us with a good angle. In their last 7 league games Cambridge have had 3 or more corners in them all and they average 6.71 corners per game in those 7 games, more than 2 corners above their season average of 4.48 corners per game. When you add in the fact that Carlisle have given away at least 3 corners in all of their last 17 league games, and they gave away an average of 6.35 corners per game in those 17 games, then it looks highly likely both teams have at least 3 corners.

There are no standout bets from bookings and the fact that 6 of the last 13 Cambridge league games ended with under 30 match booking points and 7 of the last 13 Carlisle league games ended with under 30 match booking points, is enough for us to leave bookings on this one.

So, whilst goals wouldn’t be a surprise it’s a market we are happy to leave on this occasion. The standout bet is both teams to have 3 or more corners which looks strong when you look at Carlisle season stats and the recent corner numbers that Cambridge are putting up.

Colchester vs Bradford

Colchester vs Bradford match preview

Colchester have drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 5 league games whilst Bradford have lost 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 league games. The sides met on the opening day and it finished 0-0 with 6 Bradford corners, 5 Colchester corners, 1 Bradford yellow card and 3 Colchester yellow cards.

Bradford have failed to score in their last 2 league games but scored in all 11 of their league games before that and they average 1.38 goals per game in those last 13 league games. Bradford have conceded in 4 of their last 5 league games and they conceded an average of 1.60 goals per game in those 5 games. Colchester scored 2 goals in their last game against Tranmere, but they failed to score in any of their 5 league games before that and they have failed to score in 13 of their last 18 league games. Colchester have conceded in 9 of their last 11 league games and they conceded an average of 1.54 goals per game in those games. The 2 clean sheets Colchester have kept in their last 11 league games came against an out of form Salford team and the league’s second lowest scorers Grimsby, so Colchester look far from solid at the back.

Goals and the result don’t look markets to get involved in as Colchester can’t be relied on to score and Bradford are hardly prolific goal scorers themselves.

Corners look a risky bet as well as Bradford only average 3.40 corners per game in their last 10 league games and they had less than 3 corners in 4 of those games, also finishing with exactly 3 corners in 3 games so even in games when they have had 3 corners they haven’t exactly convinced as a team who can be relied on to hit the corner mark. Colchester have been more consistent and have had at least 3 corners in all their last 21 league games and they had 4 corners or more in 16 of those 21 games. Bradford have given away at least 4 corners in 9 of their last 12 league games. So, it would be no surprise to see Colchester have at least 4 corners and that’s the only bet we could be confident of with corners.

Bradford have been given at least 1 card in 28 of their 35 league games this season (80% of their games) and Colchester have been given at least 1 card in 33 of their 37 league games this season (89.18% of their games). Bradford have been given at least 1 card in all of their last 12 league games and they average 1.91 yellow cards per game in those games. Colchester have been given at least 1 card in 12 of their last 14 league games and they were given 2 cards or more in 7 of those 14 games.

9 of the last 11 Bradford games have had at least 30 match booking points and all the last 3 Colchester league games have had at least 30 match booking points. So, on current form there looks a good chance that the game will have at least 3 cards.

With goals and the result both looking risky, the plays here look to be on Colchester corners as we expect that to have at least 4 and the recent stats also point to a high chance that this is a game that will have at least 30 booking points.

Crawley vs Port Vale match preview

Port Vale have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5 league games. Crawley have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games. The reverse fixture on the opening day of this season was won 2-0 by Port Vale with 6 Crawley corners, 7 Port Vale corners and no cards for either team.

Crawley have scored in all their last 9 league games, though they did only score 1 goal in 7 of those games. Despite not being massive goals scorers, Crawley have been consistent as they have scored in 20 of their last 22 league games, they scored just 1 goal in 14 of those games. Crawley have found some form defensively after they struggled in the first half of the season and they have kept 7 clean sheets in their last 14 league games, though they still conceded an average of 1.14 goals per game in those 14 games. Port Vale have failed to score in 5 of their last 8 league games and have been inconsistent in front of goal all season. Port Vale have kept 2 clean sheets in their last 4 league games though if you look back further, they have conceded in 22 of their last 27 league games and they conceded an average of 1.62 goals per game in those 22 league games. After starting the season with 3 clean sheets in a row Port Vale have struggled at the back.

We don’t think this is a game to back total match goals as 3 of the last 5 Crawley games have finished with just 1 goal and 6 of the last 8 Port Vale games finished with just 1 goal or no goals. The only angle on goals is that there appears to be a very good chance that Crawley will score at least 1 goal, and that could be a strong leg of an acca or multiple.

Crawley have taken 3 or more corners in 29 of their 35 league games played this season (82.85% of their games) and Port Vale have taken 3 or more corners in 32 if their 37 league games played this season (86.48% of their games). On the face of it corners look a good bet but both teams have hit a slump somewhat in recent games. Crawley only average 3.14 corners per game in their last 7 league games and Port Vale only average 3.37 corners per game in their last 8 league games, considering both teams average over 4.50 corners per game this season you can see how they have dropped in recent games. So, whilst both teams have been around 3 corners in most their recent games the drop in averages and corner totals from both means we are happy to leave corners in this one. If it was just 1 team in a slump, we may have an angle but with both struggling it’s impossible for us to back corners with confidence.

The season stats don’t point to a banker in bookings and when we look at recent form there is not much to get excited about. 5 of the last 9 Port Vale games ended with under 30 match booking points and 4 of the last 6 Crawley league games finished under 30 match booking points as well. When we add this to the fact that Crawley have ended up being given no cards in 3 of their last 6 league games, we are happy to sit on the side-lines rather than get involved in bookings in this one.

So not allot to go on with this game but we do feel there is a very high chance that Crawley will score at least 1 goal and taking that as part of an acca or multiple including bets from other games is the best option.

Grimsby vs Walsall match preview

Grimsby have drawn 4 and won 1 of their last 5 games and Walsall have drawn 2 and lost 3 of their last 5 league games. Walsall won 1-0 when these sides met on the opening day of the season in a game with 8 Walsall corners, 4 Grimsby corners, 1 Walsall yellow card and 2 Grimsby yellow cards.

The result and goals are both far too risky to back in this game. Grimsby have only won 2 of their last 18 league games and Walsall have only won 1 of their last 17 league games. Walsall have failed to score in 5 of their last 8 games and Grimsby have failed to score in 9 of their last 16 league games. Grimsby have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 league games and Walsall have kept 2 clean sheets in their last 6 league games. So, goals and the result are impossible to back with any confidence whatsoever.

The same applied to corners. The season stats don’t point to a banker and Grimsby only average 3 corners per game in their last 10 league games and they had 2 corners or less in 5 of those games. Walsall only average 2.83 corners per game in their last 6 league games. So, there is no angle on corners either.

Grimsby have been given at least 1 card in 32 of their 36 league games this season (88.88% of their games) and Walsall have been given at least 1 card in 30 of their 36 league games played this season (83.33% of their games). Walsall have been given at least 1 card in 14 of their last 15 league games and they average 1.93 yellow cards per game in those 15 games. Grimsby have been given at least 1 card in 13 of their last 14 league games.

The last 4 Walsall league games have seen 12 yellow cards for them, 7 yellow cards for their opponents, 1 red card for them and 1 red card for their opponents. So, it looks likely that there will be a few cards in this one.

This is a difficult game to weigh up as these two sides are used to playing on the back foot with less territory and possession then their opponents. Whereas in this game they are going to have more of the ball and more opportunities than normal, so games like this can sometimes make the stats look silly. Though if you are having a bet, we recommend sticking to cards with it seeming highly likely that the game will have at least 30 booking points.

Harrogate vs Southend match preview

Harrogate have won 2 and lost 3 of their last 5 league games and Southend have drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 games. Harrogate won the reverse fixture on the opening day 4-0 with 5 Southend corners, 6 Harrogate corners, 2 Southend yellow cards and 1 Harrogate yellow card.

Southend have failed to score in 8 of their last 10 games and have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 11 league games. Harrogate have failed to score in 2 of their last 4 league games and have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 7 league games.

7 of the last 10 Harrogate games have ended with under 1.5 goals and 8 of the last 11 Southend games have finished under 1.5 goals. So, there is no angle to go at for the result or goals, unless you are willing to bet on unders in which case under 2.5 goals looks highly likely as 10 of the last 11 Southend league games ended under 2.5 goals and 7 of the last 10 Harrogate league games ended under 2.5 goals.

There doesn’t look much to go at with corners either. Harrogate have games where they rack up a high corner count, but they are far too inconsistent in number of corners to back them confidently. We believe Harrogate will have at least 3 corners but that’s an attractive betting proposition at the likely odds and Southend cannot be relied on to contribute much to corners as they only average 2.50 corners per game in their last 6 league games and they ended with less than 3 corners in 3 of those last 6 games, so that takes the angle of 3+ corners each team off the table.

Both teams are low on the booking averages this season with Harrogate averaging just 1.02 yellow cards per game this season and Southend averaging 1.45 yellow cards per game. Southend were given at least 1 card in 27 of their 37 league games this season (72.97% of their games) and Harrogate have been given at least 1 card in 24 of their 36 league games this season (66.66% of their games) and those stats are also off putting from a betting angle. With season stats and averages like that we cannot recommend backing bookings in this one.

So, a game with not a lot to go at though the stats suggest it is highly unlikely that this game will have over 2.5 goals.

Leyton Orient vs Oldham match preview

Oldham have drawn 3, won 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 games and Leyton Orient have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 5 games. Leyton Orient won 1-0 when these sides met in the reverse fixture in the first game of the season, in that game there were 3 Leyton Orient corners, 5 Oldham corners and 2 Leyton Orient yellow cards.

Leyton Orient have scored in all their last 3 league games but have failed to score in 7 of their last 13 league games and they only score an average of 0.46 goals per game in those 13 games. Leyton Orient have kept 9 clean sheets in their last 16 league games. Oldham have failed to score in 5 of their last 9 league games and have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 6 league games.

Both teams are too unpredictable at both ends of the field for us to confidently recommend any bets on goals or the result in this one.

Leyton Orient have taken 3 or more corners in 33 of their 36 league games played this season (91.66% of their games) and Oldham have taken 3 or more corners in 35 of their 37 league games played this season (94.59% of their games). So, it looks like there is an incredibly good chance that both teams take at least 3 corners in this one.

Oldham have finished with no cards in 3 of their last 6 league games and 2 of the last 6 Leyton Orient games finished with no cards for anyone, including their most recent game. Bookings don’t look a bad bet but both teams are quite inconsistent and have games where they get no cards or just 1 card and then they have a game where they spike at 3 or 4 cards in one game. With the corners angle so strong we are happy to take that, and we won’t risk the bookings.

So, the best bet here is both teams to take at least 3 corners which the stats say has an exceptionally good chance.

Morecambe vs Cheltenham match preview

Morecambe have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games and Cheltenham have won 3 and lost 2 of their last 5. The sides met on the opening day when Morecambe won 2-1 with 7 Cheltenham corners, 1 Morecambe corner and just 1 Morecambe yellow card.

Cheltenham have scored in 7 of their last 8 league games and have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 8 league games. Morecambe have scored in 10 of their last 11 league games and all their last 5 and Morecambe have conceded in 11 of their last 12 league games with the only time they didn’t concede coming in their last game. Morecambe have scored in 31 of their 36 league games this season (86.11% of their games) and Cheltenham have scored in 28 of their 36 league games this season (77.77% of their games).

Both teams to score looks a good bet though it is worth noting that both teams have scored in just 3 of the last 13 Cheltenham league games. However, with 2 teams who both score consistently and have done all season it does look like both teams to score has a good chance. Over 1.5 goals is the safer option as both teams have proven they can score multiple goals in a game should one of these sides have an off day and not score.

Morecambe have taken 3 or more corners in 28 of their 36 league games this season (77.77% of their games) and Cheltenham have taken 3 or more corners in 29 of their 36 league games this season (80.55% of their games). So, looking at the season stats corners don’t loom a bad bet but in recent games both teams have seen some low corner days. Cheltenham have had just 2 corners or less in 5 of their last 12 league games and whilst Morecambe have been better, they have still had 3 corners or less in 3 of their last 6 games, which would cover a bet if we could rely on Cheltenham to have 3 corners, but on current form we can’t be confident of that, and should Cheltenham have a low day we can’t be confident in Morecambe covering a bet on total match corners by themselves. So, we have decided to leave corners in this one

Cheltenham have been given no cards in 4 of their last 6 games. Morecambe have been better on cards but 2 of their last 5 league games have finished with no cards for them or their opponent. Cheltenham have also been at the lower end of cards all season and only average 1.08 yellow cards per game. So, this isn’t a game to be backing cards.

So, goals are the play here as both teams to score looks to have a good chance, with over 1.5 goals being a strong bet that will make up a good leg of any acca or multiple with selections from other games.

Stevenage vs Barrow match preview

Stevenage have won 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 league games and Barrow have won 4 and lost 1 of their last 5. These sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture on the opening day with 5 corners for each team and 1 yellow card for each team.

Stevenage have failed to score in 4 of their last 7 league games and have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 7 league games. Barrow have failed to score in 5 of their last 11 league games and have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 5 league games. 13 of the last 16 Barrow league games finished under 2.5 goals and 9 of the last 11 Stevenage league games ended with under 2.5 goals. So, there is no angle to go at for scoring goals, but if you like betting on unders then this game looks likely to go under 2.5 goals.

Both teams are very inconsistent with corners and have extremely low games followed by games where they spike at a big corner count. The number of corners Stevenage have had in their last11 league games look like this – 2,7,1,9,2,1,3,5,5,4,11. Barrow have finished with no corners in 2 of their last 6 league games. So, corners are too risky to back with any real confidence.

It looks likely both teams will pick up at least 1 card each, but at the likely short odds, bookings don’t look an appealing bet. 11 of the last 21 Stevenage league games have finished under 30 match booking points and 5 of the last 8 Barrow league games have ended under 39 match booking points.

So, a game that doesn’t offer much, though if you are willing to back unders on goals it does look likely this game will have less than 2.5 goals.

Tranmere vs Mansfield match preview

Mansfield have drawn 3, won 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games and Tranmere have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games. The reverse fixture on the opening day ended in a goalless draw with 3 Tranmere corners, 5 Mansfield corners and no bookings for either side.

Tranmere have scored in 12 of their last 15 league games and they scored an average of 1.80 goals per game in those 15 games and Tranmere have conceded in 11 of their last 15 league games. Mansfield have struggled for goals of late and have failed to score in 6 of their last 10 league games, but if we look back further Mansfield have scored in 13 of their last 19 league games and they scored an average of 1.36 goals per game in those 19 games. Mansfield have conceded in 11 of their last 13 league games. Both teams to score doesn’t look a bad bet but both teams do tend to take part in low scoring games quite frequently which is off putting. 3 of the last 6 Tranmere league games ended under 1.5 goals and 5 of the last 9 Mansfield league games finished under 1.5 goals. With that considered we feel this is a game to not bet on any goals bet. It would be no surprise to see both teams score and over 2.5 goals but the fact that both teams consistently feature in low scoring games added to the fact that it ended goalless when the sides last met adds too much doubt for us to confidently back goals here.

Mansfield have taken 3 or more corners in 32 of their 37 league games played this season (86.48% of their games) and Tranmere have taken 3 or more corners in 30 of their 36 league games played this season (83.33% of their games). Tranmere have taken at least 3 corners in 18 of their last 20 league games and they average 5.65 corners per game in those 20 games. Mansfield have taken 3 or more corners in 16 of their last 17 league games and they average 5.82 corners per game in those 17 games. So, it looks highly likely that both teams will take at least 3 corners in this one.

Both sides are consistent with cards without being bankers for bookings. Mansfield have finished with no cards in 2 of their last 5 league games and the fact that there were no cards when these sides met in the reverse fixture is also off putting, so we are happy to leave cards here.

So, goals and cards wouldn’t be a surprise but with doubts to about them both the angle to take here is corners as it looks highly likely both sides take at least 3 corners.
