AFC Wimbledon vs Northampton match preview

AFC Wimbledon have drawn 4 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games and Northampton have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5. The reverse fixture took place on the opening day of this season and ended 2-2 and with 6 Northampton corners, 8 AFC Wimbledon corners and 1 yellow card for each team.

Northampton have scored in 5 of their last 7 league games, though they are yet to convince in front of goal as they have failed to score in 12 of their last 20 league games. AFC Wimbledon have failed to score in 9 of their last 17 league games. So, neither side have convinced going forward this season and the smart play with goals and the result here is to not get involved in either angle.

There is no standout corner bet from looking at the season stats and on current form we think it’s an angle to avoid. AFC Wimbledon only average 3.80 corners per game in their last 5 league games and they had less than 3 corners in 2 of those games. Northampton have been inconsistent with corners lately, having low corner count games and then hitting double figures on their own in their next game. So, with 1 team low on the averages right now and 1 team proving difficult to predict, we don’t feel this is a game to back corners.

Northampton games have normally seen cards this season, but AFC Wimbledon games, especially recent games have not. 8 of the last 9 AFC Wimbledon league games have finished with under 30 match booking points and Northampton last league game finished with just 1 card, so we are happy to leave cards here as well.

This is a game we are happy to leave alone with no recommended bet.

Blackpool vs Plymouth match preview

Blackpool have won 3 and drawn 2 of their last 5 league games whilst Plymouth have lost 4 and won 1 of their last 5 league games. These sides met in the first game of this season and Plymouth won 1-0 in a game with 5 Plymouth corners, 7 Blackpool corners, 1 Plymouth yellow card and 3 Blackpool yellow cards.

Plymouth have failed to score in 5 of their last 9 league games and have conceded in 7 of their last 8 league games, they conceded an average of 1.87 goals per game in those 8 games. Blackpool have scored in 13 of their last 15 league games and they scored an average of 1.53 goals per game in those 15 games. Blackpool have kept 12 clean sheets in their last 21 league games. If backing goals, we feel you have to take both teams to score off the table as you would have serious doubts about are Plymouth going to score? Plymouth have conceded 2 or more goals in 6 of their last 8 league games but Blackpool have only scored 2 or more goals in 11 of their 34 league games this season, so they are not exactly the type of team you can rely on to score a couple. For that reason, we feel goals is an angle to sit out in this game.

Blackpool have taken 3 or more corners in 33 of their 34 league games played this season (97.05% of their games) and Plymouth have taken 3 or more corners in 31 of their 37 league games played this season (83.78% of their games). The issue with corners is Plymouth have had some low corner games lately. Plymouth have had 2 corners or less in 4 of their last 8 league games, though they did still average 3.62 corners per game in those 8 games. These low corner games have mostly come against sides who are higher up the table, and with Plymouth being away at a Blackpool side in 4th, we feel on current form there is too much doubt for us to take corners in this game. Also, Blackpool have given away 2 corners or less in 3 of their last 6 league games, so we cannot be confident that Plymouth will take at least 3 corners here.

There is no standout bookings bet. 4 of the last 8 Plymouth league games ended with under 39 match booking points and Blackpool have been given no cards in 8 of their last 20 league games, and they only average 1 yellow card per game in those 20 games. Also 3 of the last 6 Blackpool league games finished under 3o match booking points.

Corners would have been the play here, but Plymouth have gone off the build with corners lately and whilst it wouldn’t be a surprise to see both teams take 3 or 4 corners, it is not a bet that we can confidently recommend with current stats considered.

Bristol Rovers vs Sunderland match preview

Bristol rovers have lost 3, won 1 and drawn 1 of their last 5 league games and Sunderland have won 4 and drawn 1 of their last 5 league games. It ended 1-1 in the reverse fixture which was the first game of the season for both teams, that game had 11 Sunderland corners, 3 Rovers corners, 1 Sunderland yellow card, 3 Rovers yellow cards and 1 Sunderland red card.

Sunderland are now unbeaten in their last 9 league games, winning 7 and drawing 2. Sunderland have scored in all their last 17 league games, and they scored an average of 1.82 goals per game in those games. Sunderland have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 8 games. Bristol Rovers have been inconsistent in front of goal all season and have failed to score in 5 of their last 7 league games. Rovers have conceded in 11 of their last 12 league games.

Sunderland have scored 2 or more goals in 9 of their last 12 league games and Bristol Rovers have conceded 2 or more goals in 6 of their last 12 league games. Sunderland have conceded the fewest goals in the league this season and Bristol Rovers are in the bottom 3 in terms of goals scored, so there appears a good chance that Sunderland could win this game to nil. So, if playing goals, the angles look to be Sunderland to score at least 2 goals and there appears a good chance that Sunderland may win this game to nil.

Sunderland have taken 3 or more corners in 33 of their 35 league games played this season (94.28% of their games) and Bristol Rovers have taken 3 or more corners in 29 of their 37 league games played this season (78.37% of their games). Bristol Rovers have had 2 corners or less in 7 of their last 21 league games and with the type of game it promises to be where Sunderland will likely control possession and territory for long periods, we don’t feel confident relying on Bristol Rovers corners. Sunderland have had 4 or more corners in 14 of their last 15 league games so they can be relied on to be consistent and at least hit 4 or 5 corners minimum, but Bristol Rovers cannot be relied on, so we are happy to leave corners in this game.

5 of the last 9 Sunderland league games have ended under 30 match booking points and 3 of the last 8 Rovers league games have gone under 30 match booking points. Cards wouldn’t be a surprise especially after how the reverse fixture ended with 4 yellow cards and 1 red card, but there is just not a standout bet from looking at the stats and current form.

The play here revolves around Sunderland. As the stats suggest there is a good chance they could score a couple of goals and it would be no surprise to see them keep a clean sheet on the way to winning this one.

Hull vs Gillingham match preview

Gillingham have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games and Hull have won 4 and drew 1 of their last 5. The reverse fixture took place on the opening day and Hull won 2-0 with 4 corners for each team, 1 Hull yellow card and 3 Gillingham yellow cards.

Hull are unbeaten in 6 games and they have scored an average of 2.16 goals per game in those last 6 games, Hull have also kept 4 clean sheets in their last 6 league games. Gillingham have scored in all their last 3 league games, scoring 8 goals in those 3 games. Gillingham have been pretty good in front of goal lately and have scored in 13 of their last 16 league games, scoring an average of 1.87 goals per game in those last 16 games. Both teams to score looks a good bet with 2 teams in fine scoring form. The only doubt is that Hull have been very solid at the back in recent games, so a case can be made for looking at total match goals with over 1.5 goals looking a very strong bet and over 2.5 goals also having a good chance.

On current form corners looks a little bit too risky to get involved. As Hull have hit a slump in recent games and they average 2.80 corners per game in their last 5 league games. Gillingham have been consistent at hitting 3 corners all season, but they have ended up with exactly 3 corners in 9 of their last 13 games, so they haven’t been covering the line by much. A game like this where they are away against a side like Hull it would be no surprise to see Gillingham drop under 3 corners. So, we are happy to leave corners in this one.

There is no standout bookings stats or trends and Gillingham only average 1.11 yellow cards per game in their last 9 league games. Hull only average 1.16 yellow cards per game in their last 6 league games. So, bookings are a bet to avoid for us in this one as whilst it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a couple of cards and both teams pick up a booking each, the stats are not strong enough for us to recommend that with confidence.

So, goals are the angle to take with this game. Both teams to score looks to have a good chance, though Hull have been very solid at the back so the safe play may be to stick to total match goals with over 1.5 goals looking incredible strong and over 2.5 goals having a very good chance as well.

MK Dons vs Doncaster match preview

Mk Dons have won 3 and lost 2 of their last 5 league games and Doncaster have drawn 2, lost 2 and won 1 of their last 5. The reverse fixture on the opening day of this season ended in a 1-1 draw with 3 Doncaster corners, 11 MK Dons corners, 2 Doncaster yellow cards and 1 MK Dons yellow card.

Doncaster have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 league games and have conceded in 11 of their last 12 league games, and they conceded an average of 1.91 goals per game in those 11 games. Mk Dons have scored in 11 of their last 13 league games and they score an average of 1.92 goals per game in those last 13 games. Mk dons have conceded in all their last 9 league games, and they conceded an average of 2.11 goals per game in those last 9 games.

Goals looks a good bet in this one as neither side has convinced defensively and whilst Doncaster have been slightly out of form in front of goal in recent games, both sides have shown they can score goals and multiple goals in a game as well. So, both teams to score looks a good bet with over 1.5 goals looking incredibly strong and over 2.5 goals also looking to have an extremely good chance.

Corners also look a good bet. Mk Dons have taken 3 or more corners in all their last 8 league games, and they average 5.62 corners per game in those 8 games. Recent Doncaster games have seen allot of corners. In the last 9 Doncaster league games they have had 51 corners (an average of 5.66 corners per game) and they have given away 72 corners in those 9 games (an average of 8 corners per game).

The last 9 Doncaster league games have averaged over 13.50 corners a game, and whilst MK Dons haven’t matched those numbers, they are no slouched themselves so it is highly likely both teams have at least 3 or 4 corners and the game will go over double figures in total corners.

Mk Dons have been given no cards in 5 of their last 11 league games and Doncaster have been given no cards in 6 of their last 11 league games. So, on current form we are happy to sit and watch bookings.

Goals and corners are the angles for this game, with it highly likely the game has at least 2 or more goals and both teams will score. Corners we expect both teams to have at least 3 or 4 and the game to hit double figures.

Peterborough vs Accrington match preview

Accrington have lost 3 and won 2 of their last 5 league games and Peterborough have lost 3, drawn 1 and won 1 of their last 5 league games. When the sides met in the reverse fixture it was the first game of the season for both teams and Accrington won 2-0 with 5 Peterborough corners, 3 Accrington corners, 2 Peterborough yellow cards and 1 Accrington yellow card.

Peterborough have scored in all their last 5 league games and 11 of their last 12 league games. Peterborough have conceded in 4 of their last 5 league games, conceding 2 goals twice and 3 goals twice in those 4 games. Accrington have scored in 6 of their last 7 league games and have conceded in all their last 9 league games.

Goals look a very good bet as the stats suggest a good chance both teams will score in this one. Over 1.5 goals looks incredibly strong and there is a good chance the game will go over 2.5 goals.

Both sides have had low corner games of late and that’s enough for us to avoid corners in this. Peterborough have taken just 6 corners in their last 3 league games and Accrington average just 3.66 corners per game in their last 6 league games. So, whilst corners wouldn’t be a surprise, we feel on current form it is an angle to avoid.

Accrington have been given at least 1 card in all their last 19 league games and Peterborough have been given at least 1 card in 18 of their last 21 league games. So there looks a good chance that both teams will see at least 1 card and the game will have at least 3 players carded.

So, goals are a very strong angle on this one with both teams to score and over 2.5 goals both looking good bets and over 1.5 goals looking banker material. Cards are also a possible angle to explore though goals are the stronger angle of the two.

Shrewsbury vs Portsmouth match preview

Shrewsbury have won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 5 league games and Portsmouth have lost 4 and won 1 of their last 5 games. The sides met on the opening day of this season and played out a 0-0 draw with 6 Portsmouth corners, 8 Shrewsbury corners, 2 Portsmouth yellow cards, 4 Shrewsbury yellow cards and 1 Shrewsbury red card.

Portsmouth have scored in 5 of their last 8 league games but only scored an average of 0.75 goals per game in those 8 games. Shrewsbury have scored in 10 of their last 11 league games. Shrewsbury have conceded in 9 of their last 10 league games and they conceded an average of 1.20 goals per game in those games. Portsmouth have conceded in all their last 6 league games, and they conceded an average of 1.83 goals per game in those 6 games. Goals don’t look a bet in this one as both teams have proven they can score goals and neither of them seem to have their act together defensively, especially in recent games. Both teams to score looks a good bet with over 1.5 goals looking very strong.

There’s no standout bet from the corners and Shrewsbury have seen their corner average drop-in recent games. In their last 8 league games Shrewsbury only average 2.62 corners per game and Portsmouth only average 3.40 corners per game in their last 5 league games.

Shrewsbury have been given at least 1 card in 28 of their 34 league games this season (82.35% of their games) and Portsmouth have been given at least 1 card in 30 of their 35 league games played this season (85.71% of their games). Shrewsbury have been given 10 yellow cards in their last 4 games (an average of 2.50 yellow cards per game in those 4 games) and Portsmouth have been given 17 yellow cards in their last 9 league games (an average of 1.88 yellow cards per game in those 9 games). So, cards also look a good bet with it highly likely that both teams get a player booked and the game will have at least 3 cards.

Goals and cards are the angles to play here with it highly likely the game has a couple of goals at least. Both teams to score looks a good bet and we expect at least 3 cards in the game with both teams getting at least 1 player booked.

Wigan vs Ipswich match preview

Ipswich have lost 3, drawn 1 and won 1 of their last 4 league games and Wigan have lost 2, won 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5. The reverse fixture was the first game of the season for both teams and Ipswich won 2-0 with 6 corners for each team and 1 yellow card for each team.

Ipswich have scored in 7 of their last 8 league games and scored an average of 1.12 goals per game in those 8 games. Ipswich have conceded in 6 of their last 7 league games and they conceded an average of 1.42 goals per game in those 7 games. Wigan have scored in 10 of their last 12 league games and they scored an average of 1.25 goals per game in those 12 games. Wigan have conceded in 8 of their last 10 league games and they conceded an average of 1.70 goals per game in those 10 games.

Both teams have scored in 6 of the last 19 Wigan league games and both teams have scored in 5 of the last 7 Ipswich league games. So, both teams to score looks a good bet with over 1.5 goals looking very strong.

Wigan have taken 3 or more corners in 29 of their 36 league games this season (80.55% of their games) and Ipswich have taken 3 or more corners in 30 of their 35 league games played this season (85.71% of their games).

Wigan have had 3 or more corners in all their last 10 league games, and they average 5 corners per game in those 10 games. Though it is worth noting they are usually consistent around 3/4 corners a game and they have had 2 games recently where they had 10 corners in each game, so that has driven their average up quite a bit. The last 10 Wigan league games have all had 9 or more corners. Ipswich have had 3 or more corners in all their last 5 league games, and they average 4.40 corners per game in those last 5 games.

So, corners don’t look a bad bet, but we would only go for 3+ corners each team as neither if these sides are massive corner takers, but they are both consistent around 3/4 corners a game, so whilst we don’t think this will be a massive corner game, there is a good chance that both teams will take at least 3 corners.

Wigan have been given at least 1 card in 27 of their 36 league games played this season (75% of their games) and Ipswich have been given at least 1 card in 34 of their 35 league games played this season (97.14% of their games).

Bookings don’t look a banker as Wigan have been given no cards in 6 of their last 18 league games and 2 of the last 5 Wigan league games have finished with no cards for either side. Ipswich have been consistent all season but they only average 1.28 yellow cards per game in their last 7 league games so they are consistent rather than the type of team who will consistently rack up big booking numbers. For that reason, we are happy to leave cards on this one.

So, goals look the best angle though we also expect both teams will have at least 3+ corners.
