Everton vs Spurs match preview
Everton have drawn 2, lost 2 and won 1 of their last 5 league games and Spurs have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1 of their last 5. Everton won 1-0 away at Spurs on the opening day of the season in a game that had 5 Spurs corners, 3 Everton corners and 1 Spurs yellow card.
Its 7th plays 8th with Everton 1 point behind Spurs but with a game in hand. Both sides find themselves at least 6 point off West Ham in 4th and whilst Champions League hopes for both Everton and Spurs will be slim, they both need to start winning if they want to play any form of European footballs next season. Spurs problem is that they have been losing against the other European contenders. They lost to Man United last time out and in their last 19 league games have lost to Liverpool (twice), Leicester, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Man United. Spurs simply have not been good enough at taking points off sides around them in the 2nd half of the season and that will be massively frustrating for a Spurs side who in their first 11 league games beat Man United, Man City and Arsenal. So they have proven they can beat top sides but in truth they are pretty distant memories.
Everton have also seen their form drop off in the back end of the season and they have only won 4 of their last 13 league games. Everton have beaten Chelsea and Arsenal at home this season and will be hoping to add another London club to their list of victims and boost their hopes of bringing European football to the blue side of Merseyside. Everton have been pretty unlucky with injuries this season though need to pick up wins if they want to end the season with something to show for their efforts.
Everton have scored in 8 of their last 11 league games and they scored an average of 1.09 goals per game in those games. Everton have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 7 league games but those 3 clean sheets came against a massively out of form Liverpool side, Southampton who were also struggling as they have done most the season and West Brom who had struggled for goals all season until a couple of weeks ago. Plus if you look back further Everton have conceded in 11 of their last 15 league games and they conceded an average of 1.26 goals per game in those games.
Spurs have scored in all of their last 8 league games and they scored an average of 2 goals per game in those last 8 games. Spurs have now conceded in 4 of their last 5 league games and they conceded an average of 1.60 goals per game in those last 5 games. It’s also worth noting Spurs have now conceded 5 goals in their last 2 league games.
Goals look a good bet without being a banker here. Everton have scored in 76.66% of their league games this season and conceded in 73.33%. Spurs have scored in 80.64% and conceded in 67.74% of their league games. Over 1.5 goals looks the safe option as the season stats would suggest the weak link in both teams to score could be Everton not scoring, and with Spurs averaging 2 goals per game in their last 8 league games there is a good chance they will cover the bet themselves should Everton fail to find the net. With that being said Spurs have been pretty suspect at the back in recent games and although Everton haven’t exactly been racking up the goals in recent games we do feel there is a decent chance that they can score at least 1. The FA Cup meeting between these 2 just 2 months ago ended 5-4 to Everton and whilst I don’t expect that many goals it at least showed us that these two sides can score against each other and whilst that game was very important this game is no dead rubber and with allot riding on it, if there is an early goal it could set the game up very nicely indeed.
So the safe bet with goals is over 1.5 though both teams to score does have a chance and history would tell us that there is potential for this game to produce quite a few goals, especially if there is an early goal, so at bigger odds it may be worth having some small stake bets involving selections like both teams to score in both halves or both teams to score 2+ goals. Though these would be small stakes, low risk and high reward bets.
Neither side has been overly impressive on the corner front in recent games with Everton averaging just 2.90 corners per game in their last 11 league games and Spurs averaging just 3.69 per game in their last 13 league games. Corners isn’t a market we would be betting in but if backing corners we do advise going total match corners. Both of these sides if they take the lead will look to sit back, absorb pressure and play on the counter attack. This means that whichever side takes the lead will likely have far less opportunities to win corners as they sit deep and only attack when an opportunity presents itself. This can often lead to a very one sided corner count where 1 team has the bulk of possession and territory. So whilst corners is not a market we advise betting on at all, if you do want to back corners we would not back a bet that requires both teams to have a certain number of corners and would instead focus on both teams combined total match corners.

Also another reason we think cards is a good bet in this game is both sides know how to get other players carded and play to the ref. James Rodriguez has already got Kieran Gibbs sent off this season by baiting him into raising his hands and players like Richardson are also very good at drawing other players in then making the most of it. Spurs are similar as who can forget the documentary where Jose Mourinho actually points out what players on the other team have been carded as a hint to his players. There are also examples of Spurs players getting opposition players sent off as Erik Lamela did to Anthony Martial at Old Trafford. These are just a couple of examples but the stats reflect that both teams sides manage to get their opponents to pick up cards as Everton opponents average 1.70 yellow cards per game this season and spurs opponents average 2.32 yellow cards per game this season. With this also being a crucial game for both sides we feel cards is a good angle for this game.
The standout bet would be 30+ match booking points but at bigger odds we feel there are some great options. 20+ booking points each team looks a good bet as does 40/50+ match booking points. Also it may be worth looking at a red card in the game as well as an outside bet that has a chance.
The best bets in this game are based around goals and cards with over 1.5 goals, both teams to score and 30+ match booking points being pretty clear and obvious bets. At bigger odds both teams to score in both halves, both teams to score 2+ goals, 20+ booking points each team, 40 or 50+ match booking points and a red card in the game don’t look bad bets though will need a certain amount of luck as those bets will likely require the game to play out a certain way.
