Sheffield Wednesday vs Nottingham Forest match preview
Wednesday are 4 points from safety with 2 games left to play and even a win here might not be enough to see them go into the final day with a chance of staying up. Forest are safe but finished well off the pace in terms of the play-offs and will be looking to build for next season now.
Wednesday have scored in 10 of their last 13 league games and they scored an average of 1.23 goals per game in those games. Wednesday have conceded in 14 of their last 16 league games and they conceded an average of 1.75 goals per game in those games. Forest have failed to score in 7 of their last 16 league games and only score an average of 0.68 goals per game on those last 16 games.
Goals and the result are both very tricky markets here and the stats don’t give us a strong bet to go at anywhere.
The stats on corners and cards are both pretty weak and the recent form doesn’t do much to change our mind. Also with Wednesday being in the last chance saloon and Forest having little to play for, it’s not a game that appeals from a betting point of view.

Birmingham vs Cardiff match preview
Birmingham have picked up 14 points from their last 6 league games which has eased concerns that they may be dragged into a relegation scrap and Cardiff have had an OK season but find themselves 13 points off the play-offs. So in the grand scheme of things this is one of the less important games in the Championship this weekend.
Cardiff only score an average of 0.80 goals per game in their last 10 league games and Birmingham have only scored in 59.09% of their league games this season, so are not exactly a team to rely on with goals.
Birmingham only average 3.63 corners per game in their last 11 league games and Cardiff only average 3.75 corners per game in their last 16 league games. So corners looks a risky market.
The fact there is nothing major riding on this game is instantly off putting in terms of backing cards and the fact the last 2 Birmingham league games ended with no cards is also a big red flag.

Brentford vs Watford match preview
2nd plays 3rd at this stage of the season would usually be a mouth-watering clash and whilst we may still see a good game of football there is really not allot of importance in terms of the final result. Watford have achieved automatic promotion and would need to win both their league games and hope Norwich lose both their games to go up as champions. Brentford are in the play-offs and that’s not going to change so whilst this should be a good game, that next season could be a Premier League fixture, in terms of importance it’s not at the top of the weekend fixtures.
Brentford are unbeaten in their last 10 league games and scored in 8 of those games, scoring an average of 1.30 goals per game in those games. Brentford have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 6 league games. Watford have won 13 of their last 16 league games and scored an average of 1.87 goals per game in those 16 league games. Watford have kept 5 clean sheets in their last 7 league games. Both sides are good defensively but even taking that into account, over 1.5 goals and both teams to score both look good bets.
Brentford have taken 3 or more corners in 15 of their last 17 league games and Watford have taken 3 or more corners in 24 of their last 25 league games. So there looks a good chance that both teams take at least 3 corners each. Also there is a good chance of a goal in each half and 3+ corners in each half which is another good bet.
With two sides who both like to play football rather than scrappy games, and the fact that it’s not a crucial game for either team we feel its not a game to back cards. Also Brentford are sure to be wary if picking up injuries or bans just before the play-offs.
The best bets in this game are
Over 1.5 goals
Both teams to score
3+ corners each team
A goal in each half and 3+ corners in each half

Huddersfield vs Coventry match preview
Coventry are safe and Huddersfield would need to lose both their games and have Rotherham and Derby both win their remaining games for them to go down, so whilst it’s not certain for Huddersfield, it does look like both these teams will be in the championship again next season.
Huddersfield have failed to score in 6 of their last 13 league games and Coventry have only scored in 59.09% of their league games this season. So neither of these can be relied on for goals.
Coventry average just 3.33 corners per game in their last 6 league games and Huddersfield average just 3.57 corners per game in their last 7 league games. So corners is another risky angle.
Huddersfield average only 1 yellow card per game in their last 10 league games and Coventry average just 0.88 yellow cards per game in their last 9 league games.

Luton vs Middlesbrough match preview
It’s 9th plays 11th with both teams finishing just off the play-off pace, but both will feel they have a good foundation to build on towards next season.
Middlesbrough have scored in 15 of their last 17 league games and they scored an average of 1.41 goals per game in those 17 games. Middlesbrough have conceded in all of their last 7 league games and they conceded an average of 1.57 goals per game in those 7 games. Both teams have scored in 12 of the last 17 Middlesbrough league games. Luton have scored in 6 of their last 8 league games and they scored an average of 1.37 goals per game in those 8 games. Luton have conceded in 10 of their last 15 league games.
Both teams can play with freedom here are that should open things up and allow both teams to get forward. Over 1.5 goals and both teams to score look good bets.
Middlesbrough average 8.28 corners per game in their last 7 league games and whilst Luton are less impressive they still average 4.77 corners per game in their last 9 league games. Given Middlesbrough average is so high we feel it makes sense to look at total match corners being 9+ as there is a very good chance that Middlesbrough could do most the work themselves. Another angle would be a goal in each half and 3+ corners in each half which looks a good bet.
Luton only average 1 yellow card per game in their last 10 league games and Boro have been given no cards in 3 of their last 5 league games. Also with the fact there is not a lot riding on this game we don’t feel it’s smart to back cards here.

Millwall vs Bristol City match preview
Both sides find themselves clear of relegation but they were also quite a way off the pace in terms of making a push for promotion and will be disappointed with how their seasons have gone.
Millwall have failed to score in 3 of their last 4 league games and Bristol City have failed to score in 9 of their last 17 league games. So we won’t be looking to back goals here.
Bristol City average just 1.80 corners per game in their last 5 league games and Millwall only average 3.73 corners per game in their last 15 league games. So corners is another risky market.
Bristol City have been given no cards in 3 of their last 4 league games and Millwall only average 1 yellow card per game in their last 8 league games. So there is nothing in cards either.

Norwich vs Reading match preview
Norwich are guaranteed automatic promotion and a win here would win them the title. Reading have fallen just short of reaching the play-offs and will be in the Championship again next season whatever happens in their remaining games.
Norwich have scored in 15 of their last 16 league games and they scored an average of 2.12 goals per game in those games. Norwich have conceded in 5 of their last 7 league games. Reading have scored in 10 of their last 12 league games and they scored an average of 1.25 goals per game in those games. Reading have conceded in 8 of their last 9 league games and they conceded an average of 1.22 goals per game in those games.
Goals don’t look a bad bet but hopefully we get an open attacking game as if Norwich can win they will be Champions and Reading are playing for nothing but pride and beating the champions who are on their way to the Premier league will be something for them to celebrate after they fell short of promotion. Over 1.5 goals looks a very good bet and given Norwich recent defensive record it wouldn’t be a surprise to see both teams score. We also feel there is a good chance that Norwich win this game with both teams scoring.
Reading have taken 3 corners or less in 5 of their last 11 league games and Norwich average 4 corners per game in their last 17 league games. So whilst corners wouldn’t be a surprise we couldn’t back them with confidence as Reading are inconsistent and Norwich have seen their average drop in recent games.
Norwich have been given no cards in 3 of their last 5 league games and Reading have been given no cards in 5 of their last 9 league games. So we won’t back cards either.

Barnsley have scored in 15 of their last 17 league games and they scored an average of 1.58 goals per game in those 17 games. Barnsley have kept 3 clean sheets in their last 4 league games and 9 in their last 18. Preston have failed to score in 12 of their last 22 league games and have kept 3 clean sheets in a row.
With Preston having nothing to play for other than pride and Barnsley having their fate set in stone it’s not a game that’s massively appealing from a betting point of view, and the goal stats, especially for Preston are not appealing at all. Also Barnsley will have the play-offs in their mind and may rest players or try different things as they prepare for those games.
Preston average just 1.75 corners per game in their last 4 league games and Barnsley average only 4.20 corners per game in their last 5 league games. On current form corners is a risky bet.
Bookings is an unappealing market as well as Barnsley won’t want to pick up any injuries or suspensions with the play-offs just around the corners and you have to feel Preston will struggle to approach this game at full intensity. Yes they are professional footballers who will still turn up and di their job, but these games where the result is ultimately unimportant can sometimes become more like preseason friendlies, and should that happen it’s hard to see many cards.

Rotherham vs Blackburn match preview
Rotherham are in the final relegation space with game in hand on most teams around them, though even if they win that game in hand it won’t move them out of the drop zone. So Rotherham have to win their last few games they have left and hope that teams around them, mainly being Derby County, will drop points. Blackburn are safe and will be playing in the Championship again next season.
Rotherham have failed to score in 7 of their last 9 league games and have lost all their last 5 league games. Blackburn have failed to score in 5 of their last 11 league games but put 5 past Huddersfield in their last game. Rotherham cannot be relied on to score and Blackburn are inconsistent, so goals is not an appealing market here.
Blackburn have taken 2 corners or less in 6 of their last 16 league games and only average 3.93 corners per game in those game. Rotherham have been better for corners lately but we wouldn’t trust them to cover abet in their own should Blackburn have a low day on corners.
Rotherham have been given 2 or more cards in 5 of their last 6 league games and Blackburn opponents average 1.50 yellow cards per game in the last 6 Blackburn league games. Cards looks a good bet as Rotherham really are at the do or die stage and despite being safe and having nothing major riding on their season Blackburn have still been picking up a fair few cars lately and average 2.25 yellow cards per age in their last 4 league games. There looks a good chance that Rotherham pick up a couple of cards and the game will have 30+ match booking points as Rotherham could do that by themselves, but the stats suggest a good chance that Blackburn pick up at least 1 card.

Stoke vs QPR match preview
Both sides finished comfortably in mid table and will be playing eachother again in the championship next season.
Stoke have failed to score in 4 of their last 9 league games and they only scored an average if 0.77 goals per game in those 9 league games. Stoke have kept 8 clean sheets in their last 17 league games. QPR have now scored in all of their last 9 league games and they scored an average of 1.88 goals per game in those 9 games. QPR have conceded in 8 of their last 10 league games and they conceded an average of 1.50 goals per game in those games.
Goals is a difficult market to weigh up here as recent QPR games have usually meant goals and the fact both sides can play with freedom here should help that, but Stoke games have been low on goals lately with 7 of the last 10 Stoke league games ending with just 2 goals or less.
Stoke average 4.25 corners per game in their last 8 league games and QPR average 3.83 corners per game in their last 6 league games. So corners look a risky market.
Stoke have been given exactly 1 card in 8 of their last 9 league games and QPR only average1.27 yellow cards per game in their last 11 league games. So whilst it wouldn’t be a surprise to see both teams pick up a card each, it’s not a game that screams to us to back bookings, and the fact that the end result is pretty unimportant means we are happy to leave cards in this.

Swansea vs Derby match preview
Derby are just outside the drop zone right now and have their fate in their own hands, knowing that if they win both their games they have left they will be staying up. Swansea are guaranteed to be in the play-offs.
Swansea have scored 2 or more goals in 4 of their last 5 league games, but they have failed to score in 5 of their last 9 league games. Derby have failed to score in 7 of their last 12 league games. Neither side can be relied on to score right now and whilst it’s a game that Swansea should win, Derby are scrapping for their lives and have much more to play for that Swansea. So at slim odds we wouldn’t be looking to back the result or goals.
Swansea average 3.50 corners per game in their last 6 league games and Derby average 4 corners per game in their last 7 league games. The current stats would just about cover a bet but it’s a close run thing and similar to goals it’s not a chance we would take at slim odds.
Swansea have been given no cards in 5 of their last 9 league games and Derby average 1.33 yellow cards per game in their last 12 league games, so cards isn’t an angle that’s very appealing either.

Wycombe vs Bournemouth match preview
Wycombe would need to win both their games they have left and win those games by an aggregate of 14 goals to have any chance of staying up, so for all money it looks like Wycombe are on their way back down to league 1. Bournemouth are guaranteed guaranteed be in the play-offs whatever happens in their last 2 league games.
Bournemouth have scored in 14 of their last 15 league games and they scored an average of 2 goals per game in those 15 games. Bournemouth have conceded in 17 of their last 22 league games. Wycombe have scored in all of their last 6 league games and they scored an average of 1.66 goals per game in those 6 games. Wycombe have conceded in all their last 4 league games and they conceded an average of 2 goals per game in those 4 games.
Wycombe have been scoring goals lately and Bournemouth have seen their defensive record suffer in recent games as they struggle to keep clean sheets. Wycombe are still not a side who can be relied on to score and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Bournemouth rotated their squad with the play-offs in mind, so rather than backing anything at slim odds we would be tempted to look for some value and go for a bet like Bournemouth to win and both teams to score, which recent form suggests has a decent chance.
Wycombe average 5.10 corners per game in their last 10 league games and Bournemouth average 4.75 corners per game in their last 12 league games and have taken 3 or more corners in 93.18% of their league games this season. So there looks a good chance that both sides take at least 3 corners.
Cards is a less appealing angle as you would think any card bets here would rely heavily on Wycombe and them becoming frustrated with the game and their situation. For Bournemouth, to get embroiled in a scrappy game with a side basically already relegated and risk picking up injuries and suspensions just before the play-offs is surely not something they will look to do. So on this occasion we won’t be backing cards.
The best bets in this game are
Bournemouth to win and both teams to score
3+ corners each team
